    This political cartoon is about how the Purchase of Alaska. You can see this in the cartoon where there portraying the U.S. leaders buying Russian America from the Russians. This cartoonist's message is that buying Alaska was a waster of time. You can see this is what he thinks because it shows this event in a negative way. Other people may have thought that buying Alaska was good because it has many resources and possibly military. Its shown that the cartoonist doesn't think this because he thinks that Alaska was a complete waste of time and money. The cartoonist used exaggeration and labeling. You can see exaggeration where they are seeing Alaska as a small hunk of ice and labeling where the cart is symbolizing a treaty. This cartoon supports my position on American Imperialism. It shows that Seward and other political figures were getting more land for the U.S.

Annexation of Hawaii Political Cartoon Analysis

 

      

        This political cartoon is about how the U.S. annexed Hawaii. You can see this at the bottom where it says "Uncle Sam in Hawaii". The cartoonist's message is that annexing Hawaii was a good thing. It show this where the Queen is smiling and Uncle Sam seems to be happy himself. Others may think that annexing Hawaii was bad and we should have just left them alone to be there own independent nation. You can see this is the opposite of what the illustrator thought because everyone in the cartoon is happy. The cartoonist use exaggeration and labeling. You can see exaggeration because the Queen is a lot bigger than she really is and you can see labeling where the cartoonist labeled the barrel as sugar and the little man on the left and the bottom where it says "Uncle Sam in Hawaii". This cartoon supports my position on American Imperialism. It shows how we keep moving on and how we are gaining more land for the United States.

Spanish-American War Political Cartoon Analysis

 

        This political cartoon is on the issue of the Spanish-American War. This is shown in the illustration where it says "War declared with Spain -- 1898". His message is that the U.S. is coming to gain Cuba for its own with great force and persistence. Its shown in the cartoon where Uncle Sam is bold and determined to get Cuba with a battleship army behind him. Another person might have the opinion that we should have let Cuba deal with Spain by themselves and we shouldn't have gotten involved. You can see this is the opposite of what the cartoonist thought because in the cartoon it shows Uncle Sam coming for Cuba without a look of turning back on his face. The cartoonist used two techniques; exaggeration and irony. You can see exaggeration in the size of Uncle Sam being ginormous and irony where you wouldn't expect the U.S. to be so quick to go to War and actually be overwhelmingly wanting to go to War. This cartoon supports my view on American Imperialism. It supports my view because it shows America being forceful and powerful and gaining more land.

American Imperialism Political Cartoon Analysis

     

        This cartoon is about the issue of American Imperialism from the East to West coast. You can see this in the cartoon it shows the Eagle representing the U.S. going from East to West on the North American Continent. The cartoonist message is that we were expanding from coast to coast the idea of manifest destiny. This is shown in the cartoon where the eagle is shown heading from East to West. Some other people might say that we shouldn't have expanded and we already have enough land and we could have left the West alone. You can see this isn't what the cartoonist thought because he is showing American Imperialism as a good thing and how we are expanding the United States. The illustrator uses exaggeration and labeling. You can see the exaggeration where the bald eagle is very big compared to the U.S. and labeling where there showing the dates and countries so we know where we expanded and when. This supports my view on American Imperialism. You can see because America is doing good and expanding its influence and land. 

Roosevelt Corollary Political Cartoon Analysis

 

     This political cartoon is about Roosevelt Corollary not letting and Europe or any other continent take land or be super involved with our hemisphere. You can see this with Roosevelt fighting off and not letting other nations be involved with our hemisphere. The cartoonist's message is that Roosevelt will defend our hemisphere from other countries and not let them get land from us or anything else. You can see this with Roosevelt and his big stick not letting other nations get near the U.S. and our hemisphere. Some other people might think that we should have just let Europe and other nations get involved and it would be okay and some nations would have colonies and territories. In the cartoon you can see the illustrator is strongly against this because Roosevelt is not letting them come in our hemisphere. The cartoonist uses exaggeration and labeling. You can see exaggeration where Roosevelt is very large and labeling where the document he is holding and the baton tied to his wrist. This cartoon supports my view on American Imperialism. You can see this because we are expanding, but not letting other nations expand in our hemisphere. 

Open Door Policy Political Cartoon Analysis

 

       This political cartoon is about the Open Door Policy in China. You can see its about this because it says it across the top and it shows China letting other countries in to trade. The cartoonist's message is that China is opening it doors for other nations including the U.S. to be open to trade. You can see this because its showing other countries and the U.S. over China. Someone else's opinion might be that China should have left there trading closed and kept away from opening up trade with other countries. You can see that the cartoonist had people in China and they were trading and he portrayed it as a good thing. The writer used two techniques; labeling and exaggeration. Its showed exaggeration where the people representing countries are very big and labeling where they are labeling the country China and at the top what the cartoon is about. This cartoon supports my American Imperialism view. You can see this because its showing how we are expanding our sphere of influence and opening up trade with China.

Panama Canal Political Cartoon Analysis

 

       This political cartoon is about the issue of the Panama Canal. You can see this in the cartoon because it shows the Panama Republic cracking Columbia which represents what happened in 1912-1914. The message of the cartoonist is that Roosevelt was encouraging the Panama Republic to have a war for independence so we could build the panama canal. You can see this in the cartoon where Roosevelt is having the chicken crack a part of Columbia. Someone might have said we shouldn't have gotten involved in the whole situation and let Panama and Columbia be instead of interfering with them just to build a canal. It shows that this isn't the thoughts of the cartoonist because he draws Roosevelt having the Panama Republic cracking Columbia in a way that benefits us and is positive. The author used labeling and exaggeration. The cartoon shows exaggeration where Roosevelt is much bigger than the other man standing to his left showing he has more power and labeling where every object in the cartoon is labeled like Columbia and Panama Republic. This supports my opinion on American Imperialism. It shows how America is getting more land and pushing for getting that canal.

Filipino War Political Cartoon Analysis

       This political cartoon is about the issue of the Filipino War. You can see this because it says Philippine Islands where Uncle Sam is running. The message the cartoonist is trying to portray is that the U.S. is going to fight the Philippines no matter how long it takes. It shows this in the cartoon at the bottom where it says Uncle Sam will fight to take get the Filipino leader even if it takes him all summer. Some other people might think that we should have left the Philippines alone and not have fought a war with them. You can see this isn't what the illustrator thought because he drew Uncle Sam trying to get their leader while in the Philippines. The author of the cartoon uses labeling and symbolism. You can see labeling where he is labeling the sign in the corner and the bee flying away from Uncle Sam and symbolism where there representing the leader of the Philippines as a bee flying away from Uncle Sam. This supports my view of American Imperialism. You can see this because it shows how we are getting land from the Philippines and gaining more land.
